The Diabetic Diet
If you've been diagnosed with diabetes, you know that you should pay careful attention to the foods you put inside your body- in particular your carbohydrate intake. The Diabetic Diet is a scientifically designed diet plan that helps those with diabetes find the perfectly balanced diet plan designed for them. If you did were never on a healthy, well-balanced diet plan prior to your diabetes diagnosis, it can be difficult to know where to get started. Try these tips, recommended by the American Dietetic Association:
Eat more starches such as bread, cereal, and starchy vegetables. Aim for six servings a day or more. For example, have cold cereal with nonfat milk or a bagel with a teaspoon of jelly for breakfast. Another starch-adding strategy is to add cooked black beans, corn or garbanzo beans to salads or casseroles.
Eat five fruits and vegetables every day. Have a piece of fruit or two as a snack, or add vegetables to chili, stir-fried dishes or stews. You can also pack raw vegetables for lunch or snacks.
Eat sugars and sweets in moderation. Include your favorite sweets in your diet once or twice a week at most. Split a dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth while reducing the sugar, fat and calories.
Many diabetics still want to enjoy sweets. Luckily, there are some great-tasting ways to reduce the amount of carbohydrates you take in from eating sugar. You can try some of the many artificial sweeteners on the market such as Equal, Splenda, and Sweet'N Low. Low-calorie sweeteners sweeten food without extra calories or raising your blood sugar. They can be added to your meal plan without affecting your carbohydrate count. The American Diabetes Association and the Food and Drug Administration feel that these sweeteners are safe for you to include as part of your healthy diet plan while on the Diabetic Diet.
The Diabetic Diet guarantees to naturally increase energy levels, stabilize blood sugar and burn stored body fat. The Diabetic Diet also stresses that people with diabetes should eat about the same amount of food at the same time each day to keep blood sugar levels stable. By following this diet plan and eating a variety of nutritious foods, you can avoid getting bored and help keep your blood sugar controlled at the same time.
