Low Fat Diet
The Low Fat Diet is not only a diet plan that is better for your weight, its better for your health! On average, we, as Americans do not have a low fat diet. So it may not come as a surprise to learn that about 55 percent of American adults and 18 percent of American children are overweight and out of these, a significant proportion is seriously overweight or obese. Eating too much fat is one of the major causes so introducing the Low Fat Diet into your household is not only beneficial for you, but for your entire family!
The first step to starting the Low Fat Diet is to clear out your refrigerator and pantry. If junk food exists in the house, kids will get to it and so will you! So toss out any foods you know are unhealthy and well help you get started with some healthier basic alternatives. To start off your new shopping list, please add the following: olive oil, canned fish, whole wheat pastas, dried and fresh fruit, whole grain bread, oatmeal or low-fat granola cereal, vegetables, honey, nuts and seeds, canned tomatoes, salad and low fat dressings. By now youre thinking we just took the fun out of eating but wait! You can still snack, add pretzels, low-fat popcorn, applesauce and whole grain crackers to your list! Okay, that looks better.
The next step in the Low Fat Diet is to always eat breakfast. The point of this diet is to learn to eat healthy, balanced meals that still give you the energy you need to last throughout the day. Eating a healthy breakfast, such as whole-grain cereal with low-fat milk, fruit and yogurt will keep your blood-sugar levels stable and sustain you until lunchtime. For lunch and dinners, you can substitute some of the fatty meals with delicious fish. Fish is naturally low in fat and some contain healthy nutrients such as omega-3, particularly found in salmon. Healthy compliments for this meal include roasted vegetables and a small portion of brown rice.
Finally exercise is necessary to burn off the calories. This can be as simple as a 30 minute fast paced walk. If you implement the Low Fat Diet in your household, persuade your family to take a brisk walk with you. After all, you know what they say the family that walks together stays together, right? After exercising and throughout the day, it is important to drink a lot of water. Many people actually confuse hunger with being thirty, so when the hunger pangs first hit, drink a cup of water and see if that satisfies.
The Low Fat Diet means lower cholesterol and thus a healthier heart. The Low Fat Diet is also a great prevention for cancer and overall great for your health! So start making changes today for a healthier, longer tomorrow!
