Based around consumption of unprocessed, plant-based meals, the Raw Food Diet requires that followers eat a diet of at least seventy-five percent uncooked foods. And while your first thought may be that you'll only be able to eat celery and carrots, fear not: the Raw Food Diet actually allows for a fairly varied meal diet plan. While on the Raw Food Diet, you can choose from fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, beans, grains, legumes, dried fruits, fresh fruit and vegetable juices and purified water.

The method behind the Raw Food Diet is that raw foods are believed to contain essential enzymes that the cooking process destroys. Many followers of the diet plan use specific methods to prepare their foods, including sprouting seeds and grains and soaking nuts and dried fruits. While cooked foods are not allowed in the Raw Food Diet, food can be heated up to 116�F using a dehydrator that blows hot air through the food.

Although the Raw Food Diet can be challenging, proponents cite many health benefits, including increased energy, better skin, improved digestion, significant weight loss and better heart health. Side effects of this diet plan, if any, are usually only temporary and can include headaches and mild nausea. However, because the Raw Food Diet is nutrient-rich, low in fat and sodium, and high in fiber, many people are able to healthfully and successfully lose weight.
