Rice Diet: Lose Lots of Weight the Healthy Way!

Contrary to its name, the Rice Diet is not actually a diet plan based on eating rice. Rather, this diet plan is a low salt, low fat and predominantly vegetarian diet plan that incorporates a variety of foods. Created by Duke University for the treatment of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure, this diet plan is a medically supervised program designed for quick weight reduction.

People from all over the world come to the Rice Diet Center in Durham, N.C. to participate in the diet plan. Participants in the Rice Diet program enjoy delicious, calorie-controlled meals, regular visits from medical staff, as well as activities to help reduce stress, such as yoga and group therapy. Because the menu changes on a daily basis, people can look forward to eating a wide variety of foods.

There are two phases of the Rice Diet. Phase 1 includes lots of fruits and grains and requires medical supervision. The Rice Diet recommends that people stay on Phase 1 for at least half of their stay at the Rice Diet Center. Rice Diet Phase 2 includes vegetables, beans, and carbohydrates, in addition to grains and fruits. Three meals are served each day, and the diet plan suggests that dieters eat a vegetarian diet until their weight goals are achieved. In some cases, non-fat dairy products, fish and lean meats can be incorporated into the meal plan.

While the Rice Diet was originally a diet plan intended for the morbidly obese, it's gaining popularity among people with different weight loss goals as well. However, because participants are required to stay at the Rice Diet Center for about four to six weeks under medical supervision, this requires that dieters have fairly deep pockets to be able to afford the program.
