The Scarsdale Diet has been championing short term dieting results for some time now. The diet plan is suggested to be implemented for a maximum of two weeks, so that you get a great start on losing weight and continuing on towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Scarsdale Diet was developed by Dr. Herman Tarnower, with hopes that a person following this regimen would lose up to one pound a day. This may sound strenuous, but remember, this diet plan is not intended to last any longer than two weeks.

The Scarsdale Diet is based on a specific menu with tons of water and proportioned amounts of fruits, vegetables, lean sources of protein, vitamins and minerals. It also advises herbal appetite suppressants.

There's a Scarsdale Diet substitution menu available if you get bored with options. Although you're relieved from calorie counting, you must closely follow the diet plan for optimal results; you're limited to just breakfast, lunch and dinner with no snacking allowed. Simply remind yourself that after two weeks with Scarsdale, you'll have amazing weight loss results and will be able to create a healthy regimen so you don't regain the weight.

It might be exhausting if you try exercising while you're on this diet. Since you're limiting your caloric intake, the Scarsdale Diet doesn't recommend strenuous exercise for those over 40. The diet plan comes in several versions: the Foodie, Exotic, Economy and Vegetarian, but here's a brief refresher of the classic components:

  • Drink at least 4 glasses of water or diet soda per day.
  • Spice things up with these: herbs, salt, pepper, lemon, vinegar, Worcestershire, soy sauce, mustard & ketchup.
  • The Scarsdale Diet cuts out carbohydrates, all fats, most dairy products, fruit juices, alcohol, sweets and puddings, chocolate and deli meat.

After two-weeks, a stabilization diet plan should be utilized where you gradually add more food into your diet plan. After completing the diet plan, it's important to work in an exercise routine in as well.
